The Foundation for Finnish Assyriological Research was established in late 2009, some months after Simo Parpola, professor of Assyriology at the University of Helsinki, retired. The chair was no longer filled, and this decision by the University severely compromised the future of Finnish Assyriology.
The Foundation is funded by profits from Assyriological publications which are published in cooperation with an international publisher. The Foundation issues yearly grants to Finnish students and scholars of Assyriologỵ.
This website also contains information on the Neo-Assyrian Text Corpus Project, led by professor Parpola since 1986.
